New Steps Toward Sustainability

All Bloomsburg Carpet products are woven in America at our Pennsylvania mill where preservation of craft, environment, and community has always been a priority. The Bloomsburg Carpet mill is powered by solar energy. The 1.7 million kWH solar panel system installed on the roof of the mill includes 3,479 solar panels. The solar energy system generates enough power for the entire facility, and creates a surplus to help power the local electrical grid. Standard electricity in the United States is created through the burning of fossil fuels which releases harmful carbon dioxide and pollutants into the air. The addition of solar panels allows Bloomsburg Carpet to lower its carbon emissions and invest in a cleaner, more sustainable future for everyone.

INITIATIVES TO ELIMINATE WASTE

Bloomsburg Carpet uses digital marketing tools to prevent the material consumption of products. The digital pom box displays all available carpet colors. This eliminates waste from the physical production process. A digital pom box also means that we use less plastic, cardboard, and emissions that would be caused by the packaging and transportation of these samples. Bloomsburg Carpet also partnered with the county conservation district to improve stream quality and the surrounding wildlife on the land next to the mill. An existing structure on this land was restored and repurposed as the Bloomsburg Carpet Factory Outlet. The outlet sells rugs created from carpet remnants in the mill. Local customers can browse and purchase rugs at a discounted price. This project is a way to contribute to the local community while also eliminating the potential for waste.

THIRD PARTY CERTIFICATIONS

The majority of Bloomsburg Carpet products are Green Label Plus certified, meeting the highest industry standard for indoor air quality. Bloomsburg Carpet products often contribute to LEED certification, meeting the requirements for renewable materials, low-emitting materials, and recycled content. Projects located within range of the Bloomsburg Mill receive extra LEED points.

Bloomsburg Carpet products also have Environmental Product Declarations (EPD’s). These documents, which are based on our full product lifecycle analyses, can be used to understand the embodied carbon footprint of our products as well as contribute to green building certificates.

CRADLE TO CRADLE NYLON FIBERS

Bloomsburg Carpet uses renewable fibers because we make sustainability a priority. All Tuva Bloomsburg products are woven with Zeftron Nylon and Universal Yarn systems. These products contain type 6 Nylon which is 100% recyclable. Zeftron nylon yarns are MBDC Cradle to Cradle Silver certified and come standard with a minimum 25% recycled content.

WOVEN WITH WOOL

Bloomsburg Carpet is the largest consumer of wool in the American woven carpet industry. Wool is a completely renewable, sustainable fiber that also resists indoor air contaminants. It is biodegradable, flame retardant, and most importantly — soft and plush! Some of the leftover wool from the Bloomsburg Carpet mill is upcycled and repurposed by local artisans for crafts and horse blankets.
